Probably Very Fake News

Someone told me that Isaac 'Bougie' Herzog has said he'll pardon Bibi should he be elected President.I personally find that highly unlikely. More likely is that Miriam Peretz Herzog's competition for president would pardon Bibi.Hence the conclusion that this rumor was probably started by the Bibi camp to keep Herzog from being elected President because that camp knows Herzog would not pardon Bibi.We are living in an age of dissimulation that is enhanced by social media sites that can put stuff on the web without any fact checking whatsoever.

Even when there is fact checking the statements, articles, and opinion pieces can be blatantly and patently one-sided. Recently, the New York Times has shown a distinct pro-Palestinian bias when reporting the goings on in Gaza. So much so that a two and a half page article, including a full double page with a large photo of damage in Gaza, only mentioned in passing  that Israel had been hit by over 4,000 rockets and mortars or that Hamas began the war by firing missiles at Israel. The "independent" Huffington Post is even worse. They have blaring headlines about the dead and wounded in Gaza at Israel's hands. Hardly a mention of Israel's dead and wounded or who started the fighting.

Israel is now beset by a propaganda war spurred on by Iran, pro-Palestinian social network sites, pro-Palestinian writers and columnists, many of whom are of Arab and even Palestinian descent. One assumes that the web has incited Palestinians living abroad to take action against Jews in their towns and cities, hence the attacks on Jews in Los Angeles, New York, London and elsewhere.

The war in Gaza has seemingly brought the anti-semites out of the woodwork like termites aimed at attacking yet another tree, floor, roof or support beams. That publications like the prestigious New York Times or the "independents" like the Huffington Post blast Israel constantly for the decimation of parts of Gaza are only fanning the flames of antisemitism, which, according to the ADL (Anti-Defamation League),has grown significantly over the last year.

The Jewish people have faced antisemitism throughout history. Sometimes the irrational hatred against Jewish people has grown so intense that Jews had to flee their homes and their countries, and sometimes the Jews were simply slaughtered like cattle. Paltry protests by pro-Jewish groups in New York or London will not stem the tide of antisemitism.Mass protests are needed, like those for George Floyd or Black Lives matter. If the Jewish people don't stand up for themselves, who will stand up for them? Right now Jews seem to be easy pickings.

Nowhere do these publications quote Hamas leaders who say that there will be no end to their attacks on Israel until Israel is defeated and the Jews killed or expelled. Nowhere do these media outlets tell the truth about Hamas' motives: to drive the Jewish people out of Israel, at whatever cost to human life on either side.Israel is being pummeled by "fake news." And, as has been seen many, many, times, the more someone repeats something, even if that something is patently untrue, the more people begin to believe it. Hitler's propaganda chief practiced that dictum to chilling, terrifying, and murderous effect.

More recently a former president kept repeating lies so often his followers not only began to believe them, not only embraced them, but actually tried to seize the government to right those wrongs that never existed in the first place.

One can only hope that now that the two wars are over, that in Gaza is clearly over and that against Covid-19 is nearly over with the frantic scramble by those seeking to destroy Israel and those who are following fake news reports and are incited to take violent steps against Jews and Israel, will calm down, and return so some semblance of normalcy. That's if, and only if those in dark corners with hidden malicious agendas don't succeed. And that's only if truth prevails.
